More information about LAST DAY - 9/20- RARE Antique Mother and Child Drawing Kollwitz, 1931

Katherine Kollwitz (1867-1945) was a German artist who worked with printmaking, painting and sculpture. She studied at the School for Women Artists in Berlin and was highly influenced by the drawings of Max Klinger. "Kathe Kolwitz filtered concerns of Social Realism through dark expressionistic portraits. She focused on women and working class citizens of Germany devastated by upheaval, war and economic inequality".

Mother and Child is a signed lithograph from 1931. Despite whole of the turmoil witnessed during her lifetime and expressed in her work, the beauty of the comfort and security found in the arms of Mother and Child is a defiant stance against evil and celebrated in this exquisite rendering. Measures 14.75" wide, 18.75" long and 1" deep. The antique lithograph is protected by glass and surrounded by a vintage metal black frame.
